Community Coaltion for Haiti & Vienna Presbyterian Church
The Community Coalition for Haiti (CCH) was first formed in 1989 as a joint mission effort of Vienna Presbyterian Church and First Baptist of Vienna. CCH was started primarily as a medical mission and the organization continues to be an important medical resource for those in and around Jacmel Haiti (in fact, as a result of strikes, the CCH clinics are the only medical facilities open in Jacmel at the moment). Over the years CCH has grown to include education, community outreach, economic development and sustainable agriculture. Their vision is to transform lives, not only of those being served in Haiti, but for those serving as well.
Vienna Presbyterian Church recently applied for, and was awarded, a global missions partnership matching grant to assist CCH with a new “Student and Community Wellness” effort. The goal of the effort is to integrate their three primary programmatic areas (community development, education & healthcare). By linking wellness with education CCH will not only provide for the health and well-being of the students, but create larger parent networks (through the intentional linking of schools, churches and health clinics) that will empower them to be advocates for their community’s needs.
On top of all this, CCH is offering its first ever volunteer opportunity that is officially open to all. Members of Vienna (and the other NCP churches that have participated in trips to Haiti through CCH) speak of the lifelong impact of these trips. CCH’s newest trip will be from July 7th-14th and there are still open spots available to those interested. If you can’t make it this time around, but are interested in attending in the future, more open trips will be available in the coming years.
Vienna’s grant also displays National Capital Presbytery’s passion for Haiti. There are people in the Presbytery working to create a Haitian Mission Partnership Network, much like the already existing Kenya, Malawi and Cuba networks. Is your church doing work in Haiti?
