Washington City COB seeks an Outreach Assistant to work alongside the church’s community outreach coordinator. The outreach assistant’s main role is to serve four days a week (Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri) as a kitchen manager and volunteer coordinator in the Brethren Nutrition Program. The role includes guiding and directing BNP volunteers in meal preparation, service, and clean-up, in accordance with local government food safety guidelines. Working with the community outreach coordinator, the outreach assistant will help coordinate volunteer scheduling, daily menus, food purchasing needs, and donation requests, and he/she will also assist with social media marketing, newsletter updates, and donor communications. Occasional work outside of the Brethren Nutrition Program may involve assisting the community outreach coordinator with peace or social justice-related projects and occasional church office duties. Requirements include a commitment to social justice; the ability to engage, serve, and work with persons of diverse backgrounds; confidence and gracious assertiveness; a self-starting attitude and proactive work ethic; acute attention to detail, particularly in regards to food safety issues; patience and sensitivity in working with guests dealing with difficult circumstances such as homelessness or mental health issues; and the ability to creatively and compassionately deal with difficulties as they arise. As this project is embedded in the ministry of Washington City COB, the project is seeking a volunteer interested in urban church ministry and committed to being a part of the life and ministry of the congregation.
