Once a month a few churches, including the NCP's Church of the Covenant gather for worship in the small park near Shirlington Rd and 27th St. There the Shirlington Employment and Education Center (SEEC) has created a safe place for Day Laborers to gather and seek hourly work. On the sunday I was there, Chaplain William (who's salary is supported in part by a MCC grant) and his wife, along with Rev Beth Goss led worship in Spanish with guitars and conga drums. A few of the gentleman gathered there took part too. To compliment worship, Bill Murphey (a member at Church of the Covenant) supplied sandwiches and fruit salad for the men.
The photos here do lack some detail out of respect for the privacy of the Day Laborers, but it hopefully gives you an idea of the great ministry going on in our midst.
